About

Jonas Hanspach

Editorial photographer based in Ireland. Telling the story of a place, and the stays and experiences within it, with the restraint of a printed page.

Portrait of Jonas Hanspach, editorial photographer

I was born and raised near Hamburg, Germany, and have been living in Ireland since 2017. It started with a trip to Iceland in 2014, where I picked up my first DSLR. It was not until I moved to Ireland that the hobby became an obsession, and in 2019, a profession.

My lane is editorial storytelling: minimal landscape, characterful architecture, and the stays, places and experiences worth writing home about, all graded and laid out like a printed spread rather than a saturated travel feed. Ireland is home base, with the occasional chapter further afield, from the Algarve coast to the Ilulissat Icefjord.

Four kinds of work make up the portfolio. Stays, hospitality properties shot so they work everywhere a guest might find them. Places, region and tourism board campaigns. Experiences, the tours and activities worth chasing. And commercial work for brands and products.

I have shot for tourism boards and hospitality brands including Entdecke Irland, Visit Algarve, Tourism Ireland, Castlemartyr Resort, Finn Lough, Slow Cabins, Samsu, Magical Pond, Burrenmore Nest, Gate Lodge 1837, Freeway Campers and MPB.

Timeline

How this started

2014

Picked up a camera in earnest on a trip to Iceland. The scale of that landscape set the standard for everything since.

2017

Moved to Ireland. The coastline and the reachable, unpolished corners of the country became the new home ground, and the hobby turned into an obsession.

2019

Turned professional, shooting for tourism boards and hospitality brands across Ireland and further afield.

2026

Settled into four kinds of work: stays, places, experiences and commercial, with projects spanning Fermanagh, Cork, the Algarve, Lapland and the Ilulissat Icefjord.
